Located in the Black Belt of Alabama, a rural area where some of Alabama's most significant historical events occurred is the Alabama Rural Heritage Center. Located in the small town of Tomaston, which was not known for fine dining until chef Robert Cawley of Montgomery came to train students to become chefs at the center’s Mamma Nem’s Restaurant. Open only on Sunday for brunch and Friday evenings, the menu combines great food and an experience into an area rich in cultural traditions of the south.
